Beginners Summer Course
Course of Study: Over the course of our six-week spoken Arabic course which runs through July and August, students will gain basic language proficiency in the local Palestinian dialect through classroom and immersion studies. Students will be introduced to Arab culture and society in Israel. During the last week of the program, students will live and study in an Arab village in Wadi Ara.
Arabic language studies are facilitated in conjunction with the Arabic2Use website, designed to work as a private language laboratory that enables students to listen to Arabic during study hours outside of class. The website presents authentic cultural topics and situations, working in context and preparing students for real-life language encounters through understanding linguistic and cultural codes.
In addition to language studies (5 hours per day), our program includes 8 short field trips in the local Wadi Ara area, two workshops of cooking Arabic food and learning Arabic songs and Debka dancing, five "open conversations" sessions, and watching movies on social and political issues in Israel and the Middle East.
Accommodation: During the first 5 weeks, students will live on the Givat Haviva Educational Center Campus. Housing includes kitchen facilities as well as access to the Givat Haviva dining room.
Cost: The cost of the course including accommodation & study hours is $4200. The fee does not include insurance and food. Lunch (the main meal of the day) in Givat Haviva's cafeteria is optional ($7 per meal).
You are invited to register to the Beginner Summer Course through Onward Israel website. Eligible candidates will recieve a grant from Onward Israel.
